Bully beef is tinned meat. Soldiers had to eat it. Soldiers lived in holes with a little bit of iron on top. The holes were called trenches. Australia and New Zealand fought in Gallipoli, but only men went to war. Lots of men gave up their lives and went to war. Some soldiers got medals for their bravery. Poppies grew in the battle fields where the soldiers died. It is very sad. I would never want to go to war.

Simpson and his donkey searched the battle fields looking for wounded soldiers. The soldiers fought for their lives. Poppies grew in the cemeteries of soldiers. They left for war on the 25th April 1915. Anzac cookies were the food that got sent to them. Bully beef is another food they could send to the soldiers because it was canned especially for the soldiers. Bully beef is meat. Trenches are ditches that the soldiers fought war in. Some countries invented periscopes to peek out of the trenches with. I would of felt scared.

Many, many years ago soldiers gave up their lives for their own country and they travelled very far just to get killed. This is a story about war. A long time ago war happened. It was on April 25th 1915, 98 years ago. We have Anzac Day. We celebrate soldiers that gave up their lives for us. Anzac stands for Australia, New Zealand army corps. People who went to war had lots of courage and bravery. Some people never came back. Even people wear poppies because they want to remember people who went to war. They had Anzac biscuits to eat. Anzac biscuits were long lasting biscuits because they had oats and golden syrup in them. A man called Simpson had a donkey and they worked in the war together. Simpson carried hurt people on the donkey. One day Simpson died and the donkey kept carrying a person to safety. The people who went to war that did not come back died there and that is sad. They did this in Gallipoli. Soldiers could write letters to their family but all they did was tick boxes that said "I'm hurt" or "I'm coming home," or "I'm fine. " In the world now we have a ceremony for soldiers. We also have 1 or 2 minutes silence. New Zealand has a song called the Last Post. This is a special song to us. My Great Grandad went to war and I never got to meet him. I feel sad for war. I would not want to go. I wouldn't of been allowed as only boys were. The ladies were the 'font line angels.' They were the nurses.
